The Monthly Meet-up

What to expect when you come along.

We talk about Information Technology, Digital, Operational Technology, Data, Security and Manufacturing Technology. All levels of experience are welcome — from students and web devs at the start of their careers, through project managers, to architects, CISOs and CTOs with decades behind them.

Anyone who wants to meet like-minded people and talk about all things technology and digital. We have a complete mix in the group, and every level of experience is genuinely welcome.

No. You can be unemployed, self-employed, a contractor or employed. You could be in any role — HR included — at a tech company, or in a tech role at any company. We accept all.

About TEC

How it started.

In November 2024, Alan attended the Advanced Manufacturing Conference in Sheffield. Something stood out. For an event built around manufacturing, the region's large manufacturers were conspicuously absent — not just from the speaker line-up, but from the room entirely. And for a conference on advanced manufacturing, there was surprisingly little technology in the conversation.

A few months later, at Celebrate Chesterfield in 2025, Alan noticed the same gap again. There was clearly appetite for this kind of work locally, but the people and the technology weren't being brought together in the same place.

The idea took shape properly over a conversation with Jim at Host on Chatsworth Road. Tech Exchange Chesterfield grew out of that meeting — a deliberate attempt to close the gap between the area's technologists, manufacturers and businesses, and to give local tech talent a place to connect.

What we're here to do

We exist to accelerate local tech talent, innovation and opportunity. In practice, that means creating a regular, open space where people working in and around technology in Chesterfield can meet, share what they're doing, and find the support, collaborators and ideas they need to push their work forward — and to keep that value rooted in the local community.

What we stand for

Five principles guide how we run Tech Exchange Chesterfield.

Scroll through to see what we mean.

01

Trust

We always act in a way that builds trust. Wherever possible, we keep our conversations open and on the record, so members know where they stand and what to expect.

02

Supportive

We aim to support all our members. We can't please everyone all the time, but we won't fall into the habit of serving a select few at the expense of the rest.

03

Low barrier to entry

We make it easy to join. We don't gate-keep, and we act inclusively — anyone with an interest is welcome.

04

Local first

We give preference to local. That means seeking out local support, championing local people, and putting back into the local community wherever we can.

05

Low effort for organisers

Nothing happens without effort, but we're realistic about capacity. To avoid burnout and keep this sustainable, we put our energy where it does the most good rather than trying to do everything.
